Overview

Wikipedia to Grokipedia (“the Extension”) is a browser extension that helps you open, compare, preview, or optionally auto-redirect Wikipedia topics on Grokipedia.com (an alternate, AI-generated encyclopedia). This privacy policy explains what the Extension stores on your device, what network requests it makes for features, and what it does not do.

Data collection by the developer

The Extension does not collect, sell, or transmit personal data to the Extension developer. There is no developer backend for analytics, accounts, or advertising.

Preferences and caches stay in your browser via Chrome storage. Feature-related network requests go only to Wikipedia / Wikimedia and Grokipedia (and optional donation links you choose to open).

Data stored on your device

The Extension uses Chrome’s built-in storage APIs. Settings may sync across devices if you have Chrome Sync enabled; caches are typically local only.

None of this is uploaded to the Extension developer.

Network requests (feature use, not developer analytics)

To provide its features, the Extension contacts public websites. These requests are made by your browser as part of normal extension operation; they are not sent to a separate developer analytics service.

Grokipedia (`grokipedia.com` / `*.grokipedia.com`)	Open or search articles you choose; check whether a public page exists (e.g. HEAD); optionally fetch public page HTML for a short in-extension preview; inject a small reverse UI (open Wikipedia / 404 helper) on Grokipedia pages.
Buy Me a Coffee (optional)	Only if you click a donation link in the popup or options. That site has its own privacy policy.

Permissions and what they are used for

Permission	Purpose
`storage`	Save preferences and local caches described above.
`contextMenus`	Right-click actions: search selected text on Grokipedia, open the current Wikipedia page on Grokipedia, or compare by opening Grokipedia alongside Wikipedia.
`tabs`	Create or update tabs when opening Grokipedia or Wikipedia (popup, context menu, keyboard shortcut, omnibox) and show a per-tab badge when a match is available.
`webNavigation`	Detect navigations to Wikipedia articles so, when auto-redirect is enabled and a cached exact Grokipedia match exists, the tab can be redirected early. Not used for developer analytics.
`activeTab`	Support acting on the current tab when you use extension features (e.g. toolbar or shortcut).
Host access: `://.wikipedia.org/*`	Inject UI on Wikipedia article pages and call the public MediaWiki API for title resolution. The Extension does not request host access to unrelated websites.
Host access: Grokipedia domains	Open Grokipedia pages, check existence, optional preview, and reverse Wikipedia link UI.

The Extension may also declare an omnibox keyword and keyboard commands. Those do not grant extra host access beyond the permissions above.

What we do not do

No advertising IDs or analytics SDKs
No user accounts operated by the Extension developer
No sale of browsing data
No remote configuration service that tracks individuals
No remote-hosted executable code outside the packaged extension

Third-party services

When you navigate to Grokipedia or click an optional donation link (Buy Me a Coffee), those sites operate under their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party practices. Grokipedia content is AI-generated and may differ from Wikipedia.

Data sharing

The Extension developer does not share, sell, or transmit personal data to third parties. Functional network requests to Wikipedia and Grokipedia are made only as needed for the features described in this policy.

Data security

Preferences and caches are stored using Chrome’s storage system on your device (and Chrome Sync, if enabled for settings). You can clear Extension data by removing the Extension or clearing site/extension data in Chrome.

Children’s privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It does not operate an account system or developer-side data collection.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date.
